TASK TRACKER - FAQ's

Q - Why am I doing this?

A - The information that you provide in this document helps me to understand how your days is structured, where your strengths are and where the gaps in your skills and behaviours are.

Q - It seems counter productive.  Why are you making me LESS productive?

A - Yes, you're correct.  It is counter productive - for the one week only.  Think of the phrase "the ends justifies the means" - essentially the information that you provide in this week will allow us to make significant improvements for the future.

Q - How long do I have to do this for?

A - One full working week.  Whatever that looks like for you - for example Monday 9am - Friday 5:30pm.

Q - What EXACTLY am I writing down?

A - EVERYTHING!  No detail is too insignificant.  Your phones calls, when you check your text messages, every time that you are interrupted....EVERYTHING (yes, even your bathroom breaks).  Please click here for an example.

Q - How accurate do my times have to be?

A - As accurate as possible - to the minute preferably.  Estimations aren't helpful.

Q - Why do I have to record what I eat & drink?

A - What we eat and drink has a huge bearing on our energy levels so checking your fuel intake is important.

Q - I'm worried that I will write stuff down that might get me in trouble.  What do you do with the information?

A - Everything you supply on your Task Tracker is 100% confidential.  I won't inform your manager how many times you check Facebook or chat at the water cooler.  The ONLY time that I will pass on information is when I believe that there is a serious Health & Safety issue or the company reputation is being put at significant risk.

Q - What if I forget to write stuff down?

A - Try your best not to forget.  If you DO forget, document what you did and when as soon as possible and as accurately as possible.  You will be sent daily reminders to complete this sheet to try to help you.

Q - Who will see my responses?

A - You and me.  That's it.  I may share trends and analysis based on your responses but NOT specific responses or comments (please see above)

Q - What's the best, most efficient process for recording this information?

A - Despite the proliferation of technology, paper is still the most efficient method.  Have the sheet & pen beside your writing hand the entire day.  It's not only quicker to record this way, having the paper and pen also acts as a reminder and prompt.

Q - Will this be accurate though?  I'm worried that I might work more efficiently because I'm being monitored.

A - Yes, this is a possibility but habits are hard to break - good or otherwise.  Just do you best to carry on your normal routine.

Q - How and when do I get it to you?

A - Please scan and email it to me the following morning.

Q - What if I do some work when I get home?

A - DEFINITELY include that.  You can make a note of what you did and when on the Tasksheet when you are back at work.
